Brian Ruhe (BrianRuhe.ca) is a Vancouver-based ufologist, researcher, and former Theravāda Buddhist monk. Communication With Nonhuman Intelligences

It’s impossible to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Right now my gut tells me about a third of it is on the counter and if we collectively squeeze hard enough maybe we will extrude another third. The last bit, as we all know, takes dexterity and perseverance and there comes a point where it isn’t worth the effort.
So, as I look at the messy first third laying snake like on the counter, I can’t believe it has taken 80 years to get this far. But then, we are contending with dark interests determined to keep the cap securely on. I am, of course, talking about the UFO/UAP phenomena.
When I was seventeen I experienced a UFO close up. The experience left me frightened and perplexed, as what I saw made no sense and I couldn’t figure out whether it was “one of ours,” or “one of theirs.” I never told anyone for years, as I knew I would not be believed or worse. Looking back it is becoming clear that “the lack of belief” has been engineered into society by dark actors who wish to keep this knowledge to themselves. Thus witnesses have endured decades of ridicule and questions surrounding their mental health.
I have also noticed an apparent lack of curiosity amongst family and friends – even now when the paste is now squirting from the tube. I don’t actually believe that indifference to the idea that we are not alone and there is non human intelligence around us right now, is part of our base state. Humans are naturally curious animals and this curiosity has propelled us rapidly over the last few hundred years to get us into space. I can only conclude that careful psychological programming has dumbed most of us down, and left us fighting over political minutia rather than uniting in the quest to discover who we really are and why we here on Earth.
We have been programmed to defer to figures of authority, whether in government or the media. Until recently many would not believe in the existence of non-human intelligence unless it came from a prime minister or president standing at a podium surrounded by cameras and microphones. Much has changed in the last few years; we now know governments lie all the time to protect both themselves and powerful special interest groups. Politicians and journalists are, in general, scientifically illiterate – you only have to look at the COVID fiasco to understand that. And then there are some experts, who should know better, but are easily persuaded to look the other way to protect their next pay check or worse.
Thankfully we can still find some salvation in books or on the internet. Anyone who takes a deep dive and descends with an open mind and a modicum of critical thinking, will find themselves confronting a wonderful reef, exploding with mind boggling colour and life. Of course, if you stray over the edge, you enter the murky depths where hungry serpents and monsters lurk, waiting to feast on your fear.
When Christopher Columbus set off from Spain in 1498 he didn’t know what was ahead of him, other than perilous adventure. No doubt he had he was encouraged by fragments of ancient maps and whispered legends. That’s where we are today except that we don’t need boats for our journey, as at this point it can be largely internal. We need to gather fragments and dive deep into our consciousness and explore. At some point, humanity may well build machines to explore these new dimensions (we may already have), but most of us do not have the resources to make that happen.
My final point is we don’t have to wait for official disclosure because it may never truly happen. If we use the tools at our disposal, we may even leap ahead of those working in secret underground bunkers. It will require courage, as the path ahead may be be taking us into the realm of dragons, but some of us can already see that it is time for humanity to move forward, and leave behind a period of spiritual stagnation and chronic materialism.

1/Freddy in the Executive Hotel in Harrison Hot Springs presented a slide show of crop circles he visited in and around Wiltshire and surrounding area. He speculated on how they were created and their meanings. He discussed their proximity to Stonehenge and other megalithic sites. His theories rely on what he has discovered dowsing plus psychic impressions received from the Circle Makers themselves. The book has a surprise ending.
2/Freddy Silva again presented a slide show but this time from sacred sites around the world. He used a computer presentation to show how the sites were linked geodetically theorizing that the grid was set up during Atlantean times. What was remarkable is that the Egyptian, Mayan, Polynesian, Azores, Incan and European sacred sites are still precisely on the grid despite continental drift. The use of pyramids and sacred geometry by all the regions of the world points to a unifying code.
3/Freddy did a group exercise in forming a sacred space in the conference room. He had created a thought form temple with his pendulum before everyone arrived and asked everyone to dowse the nature of the temple. Amazingly many could dowse invisible walls and rooms and ersatz water flows under the invisible temple contributing to its energy. By the end of the class Questers were standing in lines defining the temporary temple. Then Freddy asked us together to clear the space with our pendulums and bring the room back to the way it was before he set up the exercise. Then we cleared the room and hotel again to facilitate the needs of the remaining presenters.
Much of Freddy’s work parallels Graham Hancock’s research. Freddy has slightly different theories than Graham, but they work well together. Freddy is more mystical and uses dowsing to reveal underlying truths.

John Living
John Living learned dowsing on a soccer pitch while training in the British Armed Forces over 60 years ago. It was a brief session including other trainees but John got it. He did not tell us in the beginner’s dowsing course why the British Forces were using dowsing but I saw a TV program years ago were a man in uniform was using L-rods to find land mines in Africa. During WWII a dowser working for the US Navy in Hawaii was able to map dowse all the submarine locations. The Admirals were shocked. I can imagine that dowser had two marines accompany him wherever he went. John never added how he used dowsing while in uniform.
John set up the Holistic Intuition Society and for many years taught dowsing in BC and Alberta. The HIS videos and literature are now part of Questers and available through Tyhson Banighen and Serah Roer www.energydetective.ca. John had his HIS conferences at the Alberta Agricultural College in Olds Alberta a tradition that has continued with the Spring Questers Conferences.
John is a professional engineer and his mental processes are precise. He asks logical questions while dowsing which is of great assistance. When dowsing simple unambiguous questions need to be asked in order to get clear YES or NO answers. Following his intuition he has come to many discoveries which are not part of the societal norms. He has pushed against the mental shackles keeping people from exploring the world we live in.

This picture is of a “glacial erratic” and it is located south of Calgary, Alberta, five miles west of Highway 2A, on Highway 7. This chunk of rock is the only huge rock of its kind in the area. It is made up of quartzite, which is a very hard and brittle. The rock was an early cowboy, who rode a glacier from the Jasper area of the Rocky Mountains 250 miles south to the Okotoks area about twelve thousand years ago.
The Blackfoot tell the story differently. The big rock came to be close to Okotoks because of an incident between Napi, the trickster God, and the rock. Napi needed to rest, and decided to sit down on the comfortable stone in the mountains. The stone was very hot so Napi threw his cloak over it. When his rest was done, Napi left his cloak to cover and protect the rock. Part way down the mountain, however, rain began pouring down on Napi. He raced back up to the rock to retrieve his cloak. The rock wished to keep his cloak, and refused to hand it over. So, Napi grabbed the cloak and ran.
He heard sounds of thunder behind him. Looking backwards, he saw the big rock had mobilized and was racing down the mountain after him. Napi was afraid. As he got out of the mountains, he called on his friends, the animals, to chase the rock away. The rock rolled over the buffalo and the deer, and laughed at the coyote. Napi had run several hundred miles and was concerned at the anger in the rock and whether it would roll over him. It was getting dark so Napi called on his friends, the bats, to help him. The bats began diving at the rock and wearing it out. Eventually, they hit the rock so hard, that it split, and the life went out of the rock, and it sank to the ground. Napi thanked the bats. Napi then asked the Blackfoot to honour the rock and remember it by visiting it from time to time.
Today, the rock is a landmark visited by tourists, and included in things like wedding photographs by those that live near it. There seems to be “something” about the rock that draws people to it. Perhaps the rock has become the symbol of doing the impossible.

People ask about the different subject areas that Questers look at. An interesting topic area is the whole phenomenon of psychometry. One of the reasons for the interest is that often, it is used with dowsing to find out information about a person, place, or event.
From Wikipedia – Psychometry, also known as token-object reading, or psychoscopy, is a form of extrasensory perception characterized by the claimed ability to make relevant associations from an object of unknown history by making physical contact with that object. Supporters assert that an object may have an energy field that transfers knowledge regarding that object’s history.
Years ago, I worked with a teacher who asserted that everyone can do psychometry and that many people do it without consciously knowing that they are “reading” it. His observation was that young children, particularly toddlers, were especially good at psychometry. The child grabbed objects from the people that were holding them or playing with them because the child could “read” about the person from the object that the child grabbed. He said that the child would then go on to be very active with the person if the reading was good. If the child did not like the reading, they would immediately cry or make an effort to get away from that person. I found this fascinating. And, since that time, I have observed that very set of actions!
The same teacher had us do exercises with both techniques – dowsing and psychometry. He said that using both types of intuitive tools would help us to refine our ability to quickly hone in on information and make us faster at “reading” what was available. He brought ten objects that none of us (students) had seen before. He had the history on them. Some were quite old while others were more recent items. He asked us to pick up the item and hold it for three minutes and then to record our impressions from the item. That was round one. Round two was to go through each object, and dowse it with a set of ten questions. The questions were around age, male or female attachment, gift or heirloom, if there was a story, if there was a tragedy, magic or no magic, spiritual or not, beneficial in some way, and whether it was good, evil, or neutral. After the exercise, we students compared notes. It was remarkable how the dowsing reinforced the findings in the psychometry. The exercise was excellent proof that the two techniques work well together.
Dowsers will tell you that dowsing has innumerable applications, and applications that are yet to be discovered. Psychometry also seems to have limitless applications. Here are some that I know about:
Now that you have some background on psychometry, perhaps you will find time to try this unique tool. It takes some practice to relax into the vibration of the object. For some, jewelry or specific objects work best. For others, flat pictures or even paper with words on it will work. Some psychometrists must wear gloves as they get a “story” off of everything that they touch. What will you find when you try psychometry?

In those instances, Hynek believes he’s being duped by the government into a larger conspiracy that covers up the truth. The conference is over, and this blog is a compilation of notes about the fall conference which Questers sponsored with Spaced Out Radio.
The Setting
Spruce Hill Resort is a beautiful spot, located at 108 Mile House, with rooms and chalets available. For those that are exercise enthusiasts, outdoors, there are miles of trails for hiking or horseback riding. And indoors, there is a good size pool, hot tubs, sauna, and exercise room. The meal tickets for the conference provided great value even if just for the marvelous desserts that accompanied lunch and dinner. The quiet at night is unbelievable. For night sky watchers, the night sky perfectly shows off the Milky Way, satellites and shooting stars.
Friday – Day One
Just after registration Tyhson Bannigan conducted a workshop session on dowsing for beginners as well as some tricks for clearing and healing. Tyhson hid some orgonite figures around the grounds so that people could dowse to find them. The formal opening did not start until 2 PM. The MC role was shared by Roger Joyeux and Dave Scott. Roger handled the Quester side of the program while Dave introduced some of the speakers associated with his Spaced Out Radio Show. The opening ceremony featured John Archie of the Camden Lake Reservation who offered a welcome, a story and two songs. The conference was underway. Eric Cooper’s presentation on the paranormal was the kickoff for more paranormal presentations, and a good segue into the featured evening speaker, Lorien Fenton who talked about her experience with Super Soldiers and disclosure. 
A hardy group willing to brave the cold then left for the ghost walk at 108 Mile House Heritage site, three miles up the road and were able to hear some interaction with the ghosts, especially the children in the Old School House.
Saturday – Day Two
Friday morning started with a thought provoking presentation by Paisley Town who told us about
her story and how she moved into becoming a psychic, numerologist, and psychometrist. She shared some ideas about how our names and our birth dates need to be in balance and gave some examples of why people change their name. Dave Scott led a discussion about ghostly experiences at 108 Mile House and asked those that were on the ghost walk to share their stories from the previous night. The afternoon presentation on haunted toys by the team of David Weatherly and Ross Allison provided a new perspective on becoming too attached to toys. The day wrapped up 
with an awesome presentation by our featured speaker, Grant Cameron, world lecturer on the phenomenon of UFO’s, UFO coverups, abductions, and the message for Earth. One of the themes that Grant covered was that aliens/UFOs are here to raise consciousness on Earth. To discover his other themes, I suggest reading his books. The night concluded with a Sky Watch with Michael W. Hall, and then fun and fellowship in the hospitality room.
Sunday – Day Three
The final day of the conference began with a presentation full of information on health and healing one’s self from Joe Amaral of Williams Lake. His presentation called “Healing Your Body Pain” resonated with everyone, especially when he talked about how Type O blood types need to eat meat while other blood types can eat vegetarian. The morning presentations ended with “The Media’s Role in Disclosure” by Dave Scott who talked about the media’s inattention to UFOs for many years although that is starting to change. The closing ceremony featured a thank you from Jacqui Rose, Quester’s President, closing comments and a song from John Archie, and a wonderful Huna healing circle led by Theo Bromley. Those that were leaving shared hugs and farewells with friends (the snow had started to fly) while those that stayed prepared for the afternoon post conference workshops with- Paisley Town, Ross Allison, Joe Amaral and Eric Cooper.
The conference covered a wide range of topics that worked to please the questing mind. The days went quickly by and everyone went to bed tired and with a head full of new ideas and thoughts from different presenters and participants. The prize table raffle and quilt raffle (quilt donated by Susan Ayers) raised needed funds for the Scholarship Program, as well as providing some fun as prize winners searched for the winning tickets.

Have you registered for the PARACON – Quester’s Fall Conference – at 100 Mile House BC? One of the attractions at the conference is focusing around ghost hunters and a ghost walk.
I began wondering if there were other locations in Canada that had well known, haunted sites. I found a great website called Haunted Places (https://www.hauntedplaces.org/). This site focuses mainly on US haunted sites. However, I started plugging in cities in Canada and I found listings for different cities. The information below comes from the Haunted Places site.
When you go to the site to find more sites and the addresses for the various locations, be aware that you need click on the tab for REGION, and choose CANADA and then the province that you want to check out. When you expand the haunted event, you can pull up information on street address and hours available if it is a public place.
While I knew that we had lots of haunted sites in Calgary, I was stunned by the number of sites and the diversity of the legends.
Calgary Stampede – Legend has it that the famous Calgary Stampede is haunted by a construction worker who was killed when he fell into wet concrete while the grandstand was being built. Folks have heard footsteps at night, seen doors close by themselves, and noticed water and electricity coming on when no one is around.
Fairmont Palliser Hotel – The 1914 Fairmont Palliser Hotel, Calgary’s oldest, is home to some ghosts, as guests have reported after seeing spectral figures walking in the hallways.
Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant – Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant was built over a century ago and is haunted. The ghost is believed to be Charlie Yuen, a former chef who perished in a car accident in 1938, and whose dying wish was to be buried near the restaurant where he had been employed all his life. Although he was buried in China, his ghost has been seen in the private dining room. Lights and the stereo have been known to come on by themselves as well.
Mark’s Work Warehouse – At this department store chain Mark’s Work Wearhouse location, staff members have reported shadows in the store and in empty dressing rooms, heard footsteps, smelled a wet-dog smell, and felt cold chills. Objects have been moved or tossed, and all these event usually occur before the store opens or after it closes.
Deane House – This is the first Canadian residence added to the website, and is also believed to be one of the most haunted. While the historic building was a boarding house, it was the scene of many murders. The apparition of a ghostly man who was gunned down on the front porch has been seen by visitors., as well as a man missing his legs in a hallway on the ground floor of the building. In Mr Deane’s study, the apparition of a gentleman in period clothing has been seen smoking a cigar. Ghostly laughter is heard, cold spots are felt and a piano in a room on the second floor plays by itself. A female guest to the house recently partook in a murder mystery recreational activity, and in the basement saw he apparition of a native American Indian man, who screamed at her till she fled. Paranormal investigators have discovered that the house was also built over a sacred burial ground.
My own experience at Deane House was similar to the description above. The social club at the company that I worked for at the time, booked dinner and a murder mystery evening at Deane House for the staff and spouses. We had some free time between courses to explore the house. When two of us went to the basement to see the wine storage, we were spooked by the sounds of drums and voices, and the smell of smoke.
There are an amazing number of haunted sites listed on the website for British Columbia. Check them out! After the conference, we will be able to add 100 Mile House and area.
Helmcken House- Victoria – Helmcken House was the home of Dr. John Sebastian Helmcken, first speaker of an elected assembly in BC, who lived there from 1853 to 1920. Cecelia Helmcken is suspected to be the ghost who haunts it; ghostly piano playing is heard along with occasional pranks.
Washington Avenue Grill in Whiterock – Two ghosts are said to visit Washington Avenue Grill: one, a young woman who died in a car accident in front of the establishment, and two, her beau, who committed suicide out of grief upon losing her. It is said that the woman’s ghost comes out of the cemetery next door and walks through the restaurant, and the man’s ghost is known for touching customers and workers. The site was featured on the show Creepy Canada.
Central Park in Burnaby – Ghostly activity in Central Park in Burnaby includes that of a little boy near the lake and a young lady near Swangard Stadium who searches for her lost children. The boy disappears upon being noticed, and the 1930s-era lady may speak garbled words. Other spirits have been seen in the forest.
Old Spaghetti Warehouse-Vancouver – The ghost of a train conductor visits the Old Spaghetti Factory Italian restaurant, according to local legend. He is said to have perished in an underground railway accident decades ago involving the very trolley car that’s on display in the restaurant.
There are so many haunted sites, I could go on and on – about sites in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec. And, I know that there are many sites to be added. If you read the sites and have an experience to share, then, provide the experience to Haunted Places and they will share your adventure.

I am the first to say that I believe in ghosts and that I had ghostly experiences. I love to talk about ghost and/or unexplained experiences. I am very excited about our Questers Fall Conference in September 2018 because we will be talking about ghosts. But, I never really thought about categorizing them. Then, I read this fascinating article called “The Curious Question of Ghost Taxonomy” by Benjamin Radford in the Skeptical Inquirer Volume 42.3, May / June 2018.
A bit about Benjamin Radford – he is a scientific paranormal investigator, a research fellow at the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, deputy editor of the Skeptical Inquirer, and author, co-author, contributor, or editor of twenty books and over a thousand articles on skepticism, critical thinking, and science literacy. His newest book is Investigating Ghosts: The Scientific Search for Spirits (2018).
The summary of his writing is to ask what ghost hunters are looking for. Here are is a quote from his article.
Among the vast constellation of unexplained and Fortean topics, ghosts are by far the most elusive and unknown. Cryptozoologists who search for Bigfoot, for example, have reached a general consensus on what they’re looking for: a tall, bipedal, hairy, manlike animal. Not so with the most popular paranormal subject in the world: ghosts.
What are ghost hunters looking for? It’s not clear. As Owen Davies notes in his book The Haunted: A Social History of Ghosts, historically “Ghosts shared certain characteristics with fairies, angels, and devils, and the tricky task of distinguishing between them often depended on the context in which they appeared: and this in turn changed over the centuries according to religious, philosophical, and scientific developments” (Davies 2007, 13).

But there are of course other theories, including:
- Ghosts are “created by naturally occurring environmental conditions such as electricity and electromagnetic radiation”; evidence for this often comes in the form of EMF readings.
- Ghosts are the “‘playback’ of energy or stored human emotion that was once present in the location and then somehow captured or ‘recorded’ into the environment”; evidence of this theory is often discussed in terms of “residual hauntings,” for example. Flaxman and Jones noted that if this theory is correct, it raises questions about the legitimacy of EVPs (ghost voices), which may in fact be “merely the thoughts and feelings of the investigators.”
- 3) Ghosts “are very much alive and active, but present in alternate dimensions or realities.” Flaxman and Jones speculate that “if a ghostly apparition is indeed coming to us from another dimension or parallel universe, it might not be a dead person at all but a real, live person whom we are merely glimpsing across the great divide of reality.”
- Ghosts may be either figments of our imaginations or products of temporary hallucinations (created, for example, by brain chemicals or low-level electromagnetic fields).
- Ghosts “are sentient entities that enjoy vexing and even harming humans.” This theory suggests that ghosts are similar to supposed demonic entities or fairies.
